and the Rio Grande is now a sand pit, a few dispirited minnows clinging to life in isolated puddles.

No soup for me.

My din will be turkey quesadillas: flour tortilla filled with cheese, smoked turkey, and green chile, toasted on a griddle until the cheese oozes out and the aroma makes me drool. It's fast, simple, and doesn't heat up the kitchen appreciably. A little salad completes it.
