Cooking & Baking
Related: About this forumWorked up a storm in the kitchen today
I got a chance to get to a garden center that sells fresh produce, and scored nice sized zucchinis, 2/1.00, cukes 4/.99, green peppers 4/.99, and a bargain bag of sweet Italian peppers 8 for .50. Yep. When I got home, I washed all the veggies, and they're getting dry before I process. I took most of the sweet Italian peppers and roasted them. They are peeled and marinating in a little red wine vinegar, salt and olive oil. While they were roasting, I made a pan of stir-fried veggies, and some rice. I got a pork loin the other day to make into sausage. I cut a couple slices and ground it, then sauted it to go with the vegs and rice. So that was dinner.
I made about 4 lbs of bulk sausage with the rest of it, and since I didn't eat much today, am treating myself to a 1/2 sausage sandwich on bread I baked 2 days ago. The other patties are already in the freezer, should last me until Jan. I think this is one of the best batches of sausage I've made.
Everything is put away or tidied up. I have a sink full of dishes, but those will clean up fast. Feel pretty content

(4,214 posts)Completing all that work has to feel good, plus you have food for later. It all sounds delicious, too. Now go relax.

(9,580 posts)I used to call it a working binge After I posted, I did the dishes, a load of laundry and had a nice long phone talk with my daughter. Slept really good
Not very often I get into hyperdrive.

(16,926 posts)It is about 20 minutes away. There is a major road project on my main road, and I've avoided driving much, unless I really need to. The project is winding down, and I wasn't busy this week, so off I went. I'm really glad, too! Today, I'll blanch and freeze most of the zucchini, but planning to make almond flour zucchini bread for a treat And cut the remaining peppers and freeze for cooking.

(35,643 posts)I snapped this photo yesterday at the ShopRite. Now, as most of you know, ShopRite makes a point of having reasonable prices. But look at this, for freaking zucchini cut into zoodles (which I can do in a heartbeat because I have a spiralizer):
$8.57 for zoodles?
Please, ShopRite: it's zucchini season and customers aren't stupid.
This is nuts.
zoodles! I have a spiralizer too!
at the money you saved!!!
(plus making zoodles is fun.)

(3,563 posts)I haven't found sausage like the Farmer Jones sage here in Munich. They don't sell Italian Sausage here either. Just italian sausages and salami... So I end up making my own for stuffing type uses.
If any one has a recipe I would like to see one.

I got an idea of what I wanted in my own sausage, and it has worked pretty well for a mild, country style sausage.
This time, I measured the salt, pepper and sage, so that it has the strength of flavor I was after. Other batches, I was guessing
Hope you find a recipe you like.
