snip-"A Norwood doughnut shop has a new pastry to fuel your next Cincinnati Bengals tailgate.
This week, Starlight Doughnut Lab introduced its new Chili Dip Doughnut. Filled with chili dip made with Skyline Chili, the brioche pastry is also stuffed with freshly grated cheddar cheese and topped with diced onion and more cheese.
The innovative doughnut was inspired by popular tailgating and watch party foods now that the NFL season is underway, co-owner Ben Greiwe told The Enquirer. For now, the doughnut will be available at Starlight on Sundays through September.
Store owners are hoping to make the Skyline Chili collaboration official and offer the doughnut on Sundays throughout the entire football season. Greiwe said they have reached out to Skyline about a partnership."

On further thought, b/c Skyline has cinnamon on it, maybe that chili on a baked sweet potato?

(46,025 posts)On nights when Im even too tired to deal with takeout. A good brand of canned chili on spaghetti with hot sauce and grated cheese on top. There are worse things to eat.

(10,132 posts)and not particularly pleasant ones. My mother hated to cook and was not a good cook - I think the two are related: she used to serve Chef Boyardee canned ravioli, which I remember as vile. I didn't realize ravioli could actually be tasty until I had some fresh, non-canned ones in my 30s.

(7,143 posts)I like to think of Skyline chili as open-faced Greek pastitsio. It's funny that some who hate Skyline (it has cinnamon in it!) love pastitsio (it has cinnamon in it!). Basically the only difference is that pastitsio typically includes béchamel and, of course, a crust. Sounds like this invention closes the circle with cream cheese and a croissant.
I would order it without the onions, but otherwise YUM!

(32,950 posts)It is also a political shorthand, Cleveland is blue, Columbus (city is blue) area around is purple, Cincinnati is red.
And the chili cheese & food crimes

(7,143 posts)I'm in Dayton. BTW, Cincy (Hamilton County, specifically) voted for Biden in 2020 by a margin of 57% to 41%. They've had Democratic Mayors for damned-near ever. It's surrounding counties that screw up the metro Cincy numbers. The same is true here, where we are surrounded by MAGA towns, cities and counties - all of which get lumped into the Greater Dayton count, making it appear that Dayton is purple. It ain't.

(14,853 posts)Mixing it with a donut surely just makes it worse!
It's a weird Cincinnati thing. Most other parts of Ohio aren't enamored with that chili.

(42,540 posts)I appreciate a little salty accent on some sweet things, but I do not like anything sweet brought into something savory. No marshmallows or brown sugar on sweet potatoes. No fruit sauce on meat. No fruit in an otherwise savory salad. Yecch.

(111,222 posts)I'm afraid the description didn't make it any better, a squishy onion brioche stuffed with rat trap cheese and dunked in a Fryolator and graced with (shudder) midwestern chili.
It's right down there with the Krispy Kreme cheeseburger.
