anyone here ever make a "dump cake"?

I probably should have solicited input before buying the ingredients... but oh well.

I got the ingredients to make a lemon/cream cheese dump cake--insanely low degree of difficulty. Seems almost too good to be true.

For the record, there should be a law against a recipe that includes Cool Whip in the list of ingredients, and then the only use for the Cool Whip is to serve it on top of the finished product.

She would take them in for parties at her office...they usually went over pretty well. In fact, one guy requested one for his retirement party

2 canned cherry pie fillings and 1 can of either
blueberries or crushed pineapple (drained) some people use just peaches
I prefer cherry/pineapple. It makes it the best I think. Just my opinion. You can use any pie filling you like.
2 cans makes for a small 9x9
3 cans for a lg 9x 11
Add shredded coconut or a couple of handfuls of chopped nuts.
For the crust use bisquick or yellow/white cake mix
If you want to do a crust you need to mix it with either some of the Pineapple juice so it will cook. Top with a stick of butter on top and bake till browned on top. About 30-40 mins.

It’s pretty damn good. Goes in a hurry around here.

My wife puts the thicken cooked fruit mix in first, then sprinkles the dry cake mix on top then bakes it.

I haven’t. Hell, I won’t. Not after seeing a friend’s experimentation with them. Definitely too good to be true, and even when they came out mostly “right” it was hardly a high quality bake.

I read the ingredients off the container while making fresh whipped cream. I was finished making the whipped cream before finishing reading the container.

I haven’t bought coolwhip since I can’t remember.

But I do love making my own very fresh and very delicious whipped cream. I control what goes in it, which is a little sugar and vanilla.

Never made a dump cake, so can’t help with that!

such as creamsicle cake and creamsicle pie, and yeah, it does help get that orange cream flavor you'd be looking for in those instances.

But to serve it as a dessert topping? HELL-TO-THE-NO!!!!!!!

Dump cakes seem to be a popular item at pot lucks, so I’ve had more than my share. I find them to be too sweet, probably because they all combine cake mix, which is already very sweet, with other sweet ingredients.

I occasionally make crazy cake—an easy cake that can theoretically be mixed right in the pan. I find it easier to mix it in a bowl and then pour it into the pan. Still, an easy cake that doesn’t take eggs or butter.

and not at all a cake.

I might try to make it again, but I would want to find a way to make it less sweet. Maybe if I made my own lemon pie filling.
