Related: About this forumI usually avoid salads, unless they come with the meal, but...
I've now actually started making them at home, thanks to cheap local produce and this stuff:
It is highly addictive, and I find myself sopping up any left in the bottom of the bowl with bread. Haven't chugged it out of the bottle though. Yet.
I do, however, spend more time in the produce aisle. A lot more time.
Almost as good is this stuff someone introduced me to a few years ago:

(19,089 posts)I learned something profoundly simple (to me): The salad IS the meal ....
I am still trying to get that idea through my thick skull ...

(111,252 posts)and that was the only kind that was ever good enough to glop all over a salad or dunk fries into. It was gorgeous stuff. It disappeared in the mid 90s, never to be seen again.
Sniff.
About the only stuff I've found that's palatable is Newman's ranch and it's been a bit off the last couple of times I've tried it, that weird chemical taste all bottled dressings seem to have.
Maybe I'll try the poppy seed ones. I have a prescription for narcs so I don't have to be paranoid about my urine.
heard of cucumber dill dressing. Sounds yummy.
I looked it up and it doesn't look difficult to make. Think I'll get the stuff at the store and try it !

Cucumber Dill Dressing
About This Recipe
"This is a sodium-reduced dressing from the magazine of Canadian Living."
Ingredients
1/2 English cucumber
1/2 cup balkan style yogurt ( greek or I guess any plain yogurt can do)

2 tablespoons mayonnaise
2 teaspoons cider vinegar
1 green onion, minced
1 garlic clove, minced
1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
1/4 teaspoon pepper
Directions
Peel, seed and shred cucumber; gently squeeze out liquid. Set aside.
In a small bowl, whisk together yogurt, milk, mayonnaise and vinegar. Stir in cucumber, green onion, garlic, dill and pepper. (Make-ahead: refrigerate in airtight container for up to 1 week.).

(20,234 posts)The bottled ones taste funny to me too. I'm not sure how much it's just that they so often have sugar or hfcs added, and I'm not used to sugar on my salads.
I love just making homemade mayo and thinning it to the right consistency with balsamic vinegar. Mix that in, sprinkle the salad with ground sumac, and I'm all set.

(111,252 posts)but I just never bother to make it for myself because it's something I use very sparingly. A sprinkle of garlic salt on a salad does it for me.

(1,301 posts)on salads with mandarin oranges and strawberries.
Occasionally, I use it with garbanzo beans..
I pour it lightly over the beans, sliver red onions, put a can of mandarin
oranges(drained) and mix..then chill.When I eat it I add feta cheese
and dried cherries..
Makes a nice snack..
I recently got some Bolthouse Blue Cheese yogurt dressing..I really like that
it only has 35 calories per 2 TBS..I have found I need to add a few blue
cheese crumbles to it...it isn't very chunky...but has a great flavor
for the caloric content.

(35,658 posts)Hi, TB, haven't seen you around in awhile.
A look at the preservatives listed on them is enough to make your skin crawl.
I might buy those refrigerated ones on rare occasions, like Marie's chipotle ranch.
I like to make my own and just mix them in small quantities. I make French dressing. Often we just mix our salads with vinegar and oil, but we also crush herbs and do a vinaigrette , too.
I used to make poppy seed dressing but I quit because my recipe had too much sugar in it. Poppy seed dressing is wonderful with mixed greens and fruit.

(43,049 posts)Looking at the ingredients lists on both of those, the worst thing would be guar gum and Brianna's doesn't even have that. Both use vitamin E as a preservative.
I have most of the ingredients around anyway and might try making this stuff from scratch with Splenda or Stevia instead of the sugar. Truth is, though, it's just too easy to buy it when it's just for me.
