Cooking & Baking

Having some fun this day and evening, baking for a family post-holiday party Saturday afternoon. The senior home where my elderly aunties live has a great space for family parties. We'll have about 50 there, from toddlers to the aunties. A scavenger hunt, a chocolate fountain, model trains on a big layout and RC cars, music from the teenagers who are in band, a very contentious white elephant exchange (a 40 year tradition) and lots of food.
Because this family came west from Connecticut in 1924, after nearly 300 years there, I'm cooking with that New England theme today. I made steamed Boston brown bread, Indian pudding, raisin-filled cookies (my grandma's favorite), Joe Froggers, two green apple pies and a cranberry tart, some cranberry flummery (mmmmm) and have Parkerhouse rolls proofing and ready to bake. I should have made something with a nutmeg sauce, but didn't.
Gee I love to cook for parties.
Miss you here, HW!

Your kitchen sprint sounds fantastic, and so much fun! Not to mention how great the post-holiday party will be...

(12,249 posts)Such a big group of all ages and all kinds of fun activities with a terrific variety of the best traditional Yankee treats -- leaving your guests with nothing more to wish for. I love cooking for a crowd too and have another fundraiser coming up on January 25th featuring Native American traditional foods. Your menu sounds good enough to make 'em want to tear down the goalposts! I miss HW and her great contributions to this board and for her wit and sense of humor. Happy New Year!

You are one thoughtful cook! I envy you, getting to be with your aunts. My aunts are 3000 and 1500 miles away (Montana, Illinois).
