I didn't realize until a couple of weeks ago that there was a place for foodies. This is wonderful. I think after seeing the next post I may do a pot roast next Sunday.

Plus we are not at all fans of packaged food. I grew up with a mom who couldn't/wouldn't cook so I've had my fill. And if someone offers me another big box pizza chain product, I may just pull my hair out

They give me lots of new ideas and I am also learning/improving techniques by using them.

Hope to see you around here more.

I'll have to check it out. I can't imagine planning for more than one week at a time, but I would live to be organized enough to do it. Thanks for the info!

Simple veggies of carrots, parsnips, celery, onions, garlic and tomatoes. Along with herbs and wine.

Trick is to get the pot started with a small amount of the onion and olive oil, one they start to cook I brown the roast with the onions allowing them to caramelize and blacken. Deglaze with stock and simmer the veggies... This makes a beautiful base that is rich in flavor.

Then it's low and slow in the oven. About 4 hours at 190.

I luvs me some negamaki.

Sometimes when I go to Japanese restaurants I have two separate orders!

I thought I'd economize today and make my own!

Not my photo. I posted it because I told some friends I was making this and some of them didn't know what it was. I have some seriously naive friends, LOL.

We have a gale moving in, so have a few days to finish up repairs, which is good.

They can't throw us out of here when a gale is coming in.

So, the engine works but there is a killer storm moving into the area, so we are going to stay put.

I went to the farmers market on Friday in anticipation of leaving, so I have lots of fresh veggies we need to start eating, including some beautiful mixed greens.

Ah, the ups and downs of this lifestyle sure do teach one to adapt.

It's look through the fridge day. Going in with the store-bought basic mushroom tomato sauce:

Bacon, coarse chopped
Ground beef
Onion, sliced
Red bell pepper, sliced
Celery, sliced
Pepperocini, sliced
Olives, diced
Garlic, crushed
Raisins

Basil
Marjoram
Thyme
Cinnamon

Grated hard parmesan cheese on top.

My cookbook calls it "Smothered Steak."

1 top sirloin, sliced into rough inches

Cover with 1 large sliced onion, sliced mushrooms and a can of stewed tomatoes over the top.

Cover the crock pot, set to High for approx 1 hour. Turn to Low for the rest of the day.

Serve over rice, or whatever you like.

Enjoy!

I chopped the meat in small pieces, added a can of drained black beans, about 1Tbsp. chile powder, and a can or Rotel original tomatoes with onion and chiles. Nice blend, easy and good. Will serve with corn chips.

29. on a new diet

It's the flat belly diet. I saw a pound and a half of water loss weight within a day. Liking it pretty well so far.
http://www.prevention.com/weight-loss/flat-belly-diet/meet-mufas-flat-belly-diet

400 calorie meals 3 times a day with a 400 cal snack.

Doing a vegetarian variation.

Tonight was a 1/2 cup brown rice, a cup of mushrooms sauteed in olive oil, 4 fake turkey slice sandwich analog meat. I tossed some salt free seasoning on it.

My husband (who is eating something else) says my meal is not food. He says my meal is as to food as what a pencil and paper are to a story.

I responded my fat jeans did not fit yesterday and they do today. I left off the 'so there'.

I will see how long this lasts.
