(12,249 posts)Starting with dried hominy pieces, onion, celery, bacon, and potato. Should be interesting. Trying out recipes with native foods, and this looked intriguing because it was so easy. We'll see....

(LOL, after so many years in CA I've lost my New England tolerance for cold weather. Was going to bake something, anything, just as an excuse to turn on the oven... )

(12,249 posts)I could go for your recipe except for the half/half. I plan to add two cups of goat milk to mine. With a lactose allergy, goats milk (it has lactose but the molecules are 100X larger that cow's milk) has allowed me enjoy 'creamy' again. I also like the bay leaf in your recipe. This recipe called only for salt and pepper and I like to add lots of herbs to almost everything.

(1,697 posts)from the Victory Garden Cookbook's recipe, with fruit and bacon and eggs. Too indulgent to have every day, but this is a last hoorah before the middle son goes back to college. When the kids were little, it seemed like one of the few meals all three would agree on.

(35,434 posts)Last night's was so good I am making it again--only one left in the package, though.
For accompaniments, I am making sweet potato hash browns and having fresh spinach with garlic.
For dessert, blackberries topped with a little bit of lemon sorbet.
