I have been in low gear as far as cooking is concerned and look forward to getting back in the kitchen.

Hope Lucinda is ok. Thanks for starting this today, NJCher!

to make vegetable soup. While I was at the grocery today, I picked up some Cream of Wheat for tomorrow morning. I bet it's been 40 years since I've had Cream of Wheat! We had Sloppy Joes earlier this week. I wonder what's causing me to go "retro" with food lately?

I have been throw-backing myself for about a year now. I am living on ham and beans, chili, and hamburger helper. Not because of necessity--but because it is pretty darned good.

Froze the rest of it and will use it as the basis for pot roast sometime.

I hope that Lucinda feels better quickly.

I made a pasta fagol (?) today. I varied my recipe. I used pinto beans, sea shell macaroni, sauted onion and garlic as usual. I'd run out of diced tomatoes, so I tossed in a gifted tub of organic salsa, dried parsley and a slice of store cheddar instead of grated parmesan. It turned out good and spicy with the salsa.

It's been damp, drizzly and cold here the past few days. There's nothing quite like a hearty soup when the weather is yucky.
