Recipe: First, kill two cooters.

Thus begins a recipe in my thick Charleston SC cookbook.

Shudder.

I had to look "cooter" up in a dictionary the first time I saw it. Now I know that it is some kind of turtle.

Kill the cooters, and then "drain" them. Uh...of what? Blood? OMG.
