Whoever developed those mini watermelons deserves an award.

They are in every market at a good price here on the Central Coast CA.

Really sweet, perfect size for 1 or 2 people. They're a little smaller than a soccer ball. I keep a slab cut into eighths out on the table for a drive by snack, throw some into the blender for juice, etc.

The melons sold here come from Dulcinea Farms, Mexico. Short of sounding like a shill, Dulcinea has a neat website -

Two to four bucks is an awful lot of money for one or two servings of melon. Especially when we can often get a full-size melon for that price.

6. Just got from Costco and saw them 2 for $3.99

But I didn't get any. I spent about 30 minutes in there and just had to get out. And I bought nothing.

We initially went to see the optometrist, but they were closed.

So I decided to do a little shopping.

The degree of consumerism, the tragically large sizes of everything, the people lining up to get free tastes of whatever.... it all made me nauseous.

I had to get out.

11. I know what you mean. Albertson's took over a local Scolari's ~ 4 months ago. It stood empty.

They've refurbished and remodeled the whole store. A big plus to have a full service market again on my end of town. Walking distance and on the city bus route. That's the plus long term.

"Grand Opening" is at 10 AM tomorrow, though. Big hoopla, prizes, free stuff, samples, etc. It'll be mobbed. Read the fine print on their mailer and the store's actually opening at 6 AM - the standard weekday time. So, I'm going to get in and out by 7 AM. I know what I'm buying up front - it'll be a 20 minute trip at the most.

Have been in Costco once. A little overwhelming. Made my first visit to a Walmart on my TX trip. Needed a pair of pants to go out to eat. Same deal. Bizarre, enormous store. Got a pair of pants though, then had to get out.

Even though a swift kick in the right place restarted my side by side and it's been working just fine since I kicked it, I'm really looking forward to getting rid of it.

because it's the only one I've ever had with a calibrated oven.

It's far from pretty, but by gawd, it works.

The top burners were all uneven and wouldn't go low enough.

The oven had no thermostat and no window, so cooking was always guess work. It got to the point where everything I was making was either over or under cooked.

Now, my fridge, on the otherhand is huge and working great. I'm going to run that thing into the ground!
