This recipe calls for cooking the pasta in the tomato sauce, which I have never heard of.

Has anyone else ever done this?

It also involved chicken stock and cream. Turned out great. Good luck with yours.

Glad to hear that it turned out well, because it's an entirely foreign concept to me!

But it was an America's Test Kitchen recipe, so I figured it'd come out fine.

Once I got up the gumption to de-seed and string it, I put it through a sieve, then boiled it down with sugar to a wonderful thick concentrate.

The chicken dish was outstanding and the tamarind absolutely made it.

Today I have made a beverage from some it. It is really refreshing and tasty.

Overall, i'd say it's something I will probably have around all the time for spices and "tea".

Learn something new every day! That's my new motto.

It's not for everyone, particularly if it's not something you grew up with. But I do not like plain water and this is going to be my hydrating drink.

Not so easy to find where I live now.

And I love the Jarritos advertisements!

I also love their "Urban Luchador" ads! "We're not from here!"

May set up the Weber and grill it with veggies outside.

My annual HUD inspection is tomorrow morning. I tend to "spread out" prep, side dishes, cooking and serving all around the kitchen.

i.e. I can make a decent mess. Outside might be a good choice today.

So it's going to be whatever he decides to make. He came over to cook for me (this will be later) because I've decided to paint my kitchen ceiling today. I am hating every moment of it and actually, I think I'll go take a nap before I look for the painting supplies. I've been putting up painter's tape, etc. Hate it. Painting is so not my thing, but I'm too disorganized to call a painter.

But...here are pics of our feast from the other night when we watched the new Lilyhammer series on Netflix, which btw, turned out to be a gigantic disappointment.

First course was this wonderful radish salad.

[IMG][/IMG]
A side dish was spinach with toasted pignolis.

[IMG][/IMG]
This is the most wonderful Portuguese bread. $1.50 a loaf but only lasts a day. It is that "crusty" bread that I think Pinto often refers to. It's airy, delish. I am so pleased to find a supplier on my way home from work.

[IMG][/IMG]
The main course, lamb with vegetables, garlic, and rosemary.

[IMG][/IMG]
These potatoes were wonderful. He boiled them first, then put them in a small roasting pan which had been layered with olive oil and herbs. Split them and stuffed in some cheese and garlic. Then roasted them. Outrageous.

Beans roasted with pork and garlic.

sautéed mushrooms (a variety...at my grocery store you can buy this pack that has like 5 different kinds, no white button ones as filler either) with garlic on sourdough baguette toast. Baked camembert on pasta. Was going to do a salad, but never got around to it. Oh well. I'll eat extra greens tomorrow (I try to do greens in addition to other veggies with every dinner).
