Nice chardonnay. Simple, good food. Yum!

But I was up until the wee hours yesterday morning making a vat of chicken stock, so I have that and a pile of chicken that needs to be taken off the bones. The chicken stock is full of mirepois already, just needs a few other veggies, maybe some ginger, and noodles to turn it into soup--and I found rice capaletti. Or I'll make a white sauce with some of the stock, some wheat free pastry and do chicken pot pies. There's one great thing about chicken thrown into a pot with onion, celery and carrot, it can become just about anything down the line.

We eat a lot of Chinese and Mexican food, and chicken can go into any number of yummy dishes. Plus we use a ton of stock around here.

I've borrowed a small little thing from a neighbor, and grab his big crock when I really need it... but I want my own!!

And I need more fresh veggies too. I do well with my juices, but i need more variety.

served on a fluffy pillow of polenta, tiny green beans with chopped tomato and basil and a loaf of Italian bread. I found a new sorbet yesterday: pineapple and passionfruit. A scoop of that should top it all off nicely!

and I only really taste the passionfruit. I've been collecting sorbets recently: blood orange, mango, raspberry, and the pineapple-passion fruit. I miss the Blackberry Cabernet sorbet since the Asian market closed.

Polenta is really easy to make, and the leftovers are great sliced and fried in butter with a nice poached egg on top the next day (or so). The shanks are smelling awfully good right now!

Edit to add: Cook the polenta in a rich stock. Some people add cheese, too, but I'm allergic so I don't.

do you have a good bakery or grocery store for rolls? My local HEB is great for rolls but you need to get there at the right time.

Since we're dieting the soup will be without bread or cheese and the pasta will be more veggies than pasta. Still very tasty stuff though.

I'm not even sure why. I don't think she's even started the oven yet. Perhaps it is just the sound of a knife on a cutting board. I'm hungry.
