Have you ever heard of 'Soup Burgers?'

Being Catholic in the 50's we ate fish on Friday...fish sticks cause mom hated real fish...but on Saturday night we got Soup Burgers

Brown 1 lb of hamburger
drain the fat

Put into the cooked beef a can of Campbell's Tomato soup...undiluted

Then about 4 oz of Velveeta cheese (1/2 loaf of the small loaf)

Then about 2 tbsp of Worcester sauce

Heat till all is one and serve over hamburger buns..must use knives and forks...as it is really sloppy (pre sloppy joes)

Used to be a cheap meal...there are no cheap meals now days

chain used to sell something called a Huskie. It was a very sloppy hamburger sandwich. We called them "soup burgers." Mom made sloppy joes quite often, but her recipe was mostly hamburger meat fried with onions, ketchup, a bit of mustard, worcesteshire (sp?) sauce and served on a bun. Messy, sloppy, like you said. It was usually on Sunday night.
