The East Coast is going to have a storm for the fourth, so I'm doing my grilling now. Washing the grill in the sink (can't find my metal brush) and as soon as my briquettes are going, I will grill 3 flank steaks, each marinated a different way. I have a few turkey sausages from Whole Foods, too, and will put them on.
If I have enough time, some marinated vegetables: zucchini, red and green peppers, onions.

(146,218 posts)We had a great dinner. I made squash blossoms stuffed with Mozzarella and prosciutto. It was my first time making them and they came out pretty well.
And we also ate the rest of the eggplant and red peppers from yesterday.
The view from our farm house is like a magical painting. I keep having to pinch myself.

(146,218 posts)We look out over an olive tree orchard that also has fig, apple and plum tress. They are all producing fruit right now.
Though hard to see, we can see a medieval city from the porch and can see Rome at night. It is breathtakingly beautiful.

(175,729 posts)As someone from a flat area, it's easy to forget how far you can see from an elevation. Are they pressing olive oil on the farm? And do you have grapes?
Gorgeous views, thanks for sharing.

(146,218 posts)We do have olive oil from last years harvest, though.
No grapes, but he local wine is very, very good (and very, very inexpensive)..

(175,729 posts)Many years ago, I was in Portugal for the olive harvest. Fascinating to see, especially since I had never seen an olive tree before.
Seems early for apples, but I'm used to them in late summer/early fall and it's warmer there than here. Sounds like you'll never want to leave.

(21,024 posts)Sockeye is kind of dry, but liberal lashings of guacamole create the necessary unction.

(2,016 posts)w/ lettuce, tomato, bacon, mayo and ketchup. Hash browns, and a green salad.
Got the flank steak and sausages grilled just as the first downpour started.
Brought them inside and when the rains stopped, I put on the marinated vegetables.
I now have zucchini, tomato, and peppers on the dying embers.
Rain started back up again and is coming down in torrents.
The grill is under a pergola covered with wisteria, so they'll be OK.
The flank steak and sausages are so good. This is the first time I've had grilled anything this season! I did caramelized onions to go with.
cbayer, your dinner sounds divine and ever so Italian. I, too, would love a pic!

(2,016 posts)My parents from RI called, they are keeping an eye on Arthur... looks like their 4th is gonna be wet and windy.
Either bring yard items in, or tie them down...otherwise they are just wind projectiles!!
You know...what Auntie said...stay safe!!

Too bad about the rain, but your dinner sounds wonderful.
