What's for Dinner, Sat., Jan. 3, 2014

Some kind of chicken stew or soup. I just picked up some thighs for flavor and have plenty of chicken breast in the freezer.

I'm thrilled to be back online in record time: last night my 2 TB hard drive failed! But I'm back up and running within 12 hours; pretty damn good, yes!?

So now I have a new 3 TB hard drive and instead of Windows 7, Windows 8.1.

Cold and snowy here, as I understand it is around the country. Kitty cat curled up next to me. Life is good!

almost smell the stew.

Glad your computer problems were fixed so rapidly.

We are going out. DH is insisting that he must have fish tacos or he will die.

So…. out we will go because I do not cook fish.

I had to have my arm twisted to try them. Now, I can't bear to have any other kind. Some of the frozen fish products on the market make acceptable fish tacos, so I can make my own. They're difficult to find in the restaurants around here.

and we are going to do whatever he wants.

There are lots of fish tacos here, but the beef, chicken and pork ones are also excellent and I will take any of those.

One of the most beloved is "cabeza". While it sounds unappetizing, it is absolutely delicious.

Some people won't cook it because of the "aroma;" others because it is tricky.

I do believe death can be caused by not having fish tacos. And anyone who can work on an engine deserves whatever. he. wants.

my house and pans smell. I will grill it, but really don't want to.

Tomorrow we will get some fresh off the boat tuna and eat it raw. That is heaven to me!

You are a nut!

But I like sushi, so I guess I like raw fish, too.

Still, it sounds kinda' weird!

A salad.

Great news that you worked out your computer issues. That's always annoying.

I pulled a couple out of the freezer, but still not sure what to make of them. Maybe I'll just do a homemade shake n' bake. I do have a craving for beans, so I'll have pintos (and raw onion and cilantro) as a side. Also, some steamed broccoli w/ lemon.

Good to be cooking again, instead of 10 days as a prep cook. Which wasn't so bad, since the prep cook gets to nibble an awful lot. Hee.

when I made chili the other day. I know, I was supposed to use kidney beans, but I don't like them and I love borlottis, also known as cranberry beans. The strain I bought looks like a kidney bean and doesn't have the white coloring after cooked from the dried state.

Borlottis are terrific; you probably know about them, but if you don't, try them sometime!

And, garlic, of course. Been taking advantage of the cheap and abundant greens, mostly kale and spinach, lately. Yum!

the borlotti beans in chili (which I love) as they are more nutritious.
And maybe I'll try fish tacos, but sushi--never!
