OK, I got my cooking groove back. Needed to walk away for, well, inspirational reasons.

Went into the freezer and seen beef bones, so why not? Got all the veggie goodies, too. Rice noodles, etc etc.

While the broth is brewing, I need to find a good movie now (just watched "Dr. Stangelove" - hard to follow that one...)

The hole for the new tree (felix jury magnolia) is coming along slowly. Since we couldn't get too close to either the sewer line (and we might still be too close to that, sigh) or the gas line, we were limited in where it could go relative to where the old tree was. Supposed to be at least 6 feet away from prior stumps, but even at the 6 ft mark, I'm chopping through some seriously large roots with my axe, and it takes forever. Actually wondering if I'd do better to get in closer with a hatchet. They're supposed to call Monday to arrange delivery and planting, and I'm wondering if I should try to arrange for it later in the week to keep giving myself more time to cut through roots and widen the hole.

Photo related, but no clue who the woman holding a single flower off one of these trees is.

My children live in New Orleans; the magnolias are such a blessing when they are in bloom. And they seem very hardy and fast-growing. Good luck with your lovely felix jury.

tomato-broccoli salad. It was a birthday dinner for one of the family, so we had pound cake with strawberries and whipped cream.
