A Little Snap, to Take the Table Beyond Tan

'ONE Thanksgiving I proposed adding a dish to my family’s ironclad menu. After filling out an application in triplicate and pleading my case before the committee, I received probationary approval for a dish of string beans, boiled just until barely tender and bright green, then tossed in a pan with minced garlic and ginger.

My argument, radical in the extreme, was this: The traditional Thanksgiving meal has become monotonous, overloaded with soft textures and rich, bland flavors.'>>>
