There I was, watching The Food Network Star...spoiler alert

and they had to go and ruin it by making Guy Fieri the mentor in the pilot challenge. I'm not sure why I can't stand him but I just can't STAND HIM. I fast forwarded through his scenes. The only saving grace was seeing Matthew's face when he wasn't selected to move ahead. I cannot imagine who would want to watch him other than his hordes of youtube fans.

Yeah, I'm a grouch.

But thought choosing Rusty over him was a mistake, sort of makes me think the fix is in for Jason

If that's him, I'll pass, too. I'm not nuts about this contest, anyway.

probably why he headed up the pilot challenge.

Don't care for him much either but given his success I bet he's a decent mentor.

I sorta feel sorry for him that he's stuck with that ridiculous 'signature hairstyle. Same for Chef Ann

he had a very short lived cooking show. I guess they could come up with a new show called Food Network Star Host. Seems like that's all some of them end up doing.

but it still came through. I just didn't see anything innovative about his food.

I wouldn't watch his show. I would watch Jason and Rusty. Rusty needs to loosen up and have fun.

Why do they even have the "Next Food Network Star" when all they run is "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" over and over and over and over and over and over again?

Then I saw a Food Network special documentary about him and I changed my opinion somewhat.

He grew up in Northern CA with hippie parents who lived off the grid for much of his childhood. The parents were vegetarians and apparently when young Guy came home wanting meat Mom said OK but you have to cook it yourself. Thus, began his career cooking. There are other interesting factoids about him becoming an entrepreneur at an early age and he did go to culinary school in France (I think) at an early age also.

Sometimes, his brashness bugs me but for the most part I think he does a good job.
