Americas Test Kitchen has a new home
Americas Test Kitchen has a new home in the Hub at the Innovation and Design Building in Seaport and its a far cry from its former, brick-covered Brookline Village abode.
It would have been a much easier project if we had gone to an office park off of Route 128, joked Jack Bishop, the media companys creative director.
In addition to the complicated build-out internally with venting for 50 different ovens, we have to grill, Bishop said. So we needed grilling space thats going to be built next month behind the building.
The brand spanking new kitchen, where 42 test cooks work each day, comprises 15,000 square feet of prime Drydock Avenue real estate. While they dont have the dimensions of their previous space at Brooklines 17 Station St., a rep for Americas Test Kitchen said its safe to say the new space is more than double the old.
Walking around the new test kitchen, youll see its chock-full of high-end appliances 339, to be exact a library containing more than 4,000 recipe books, photo and video studios, and a take-home fridge where employees can call dibs on completed dishes that their co-workers were testing.
Now that Americas Test Kitchen has moved to the Innovation and Design Building, it has become part of a Boston ecosystem filled with our citys startups and creative types.
We wanted to be at a destination, someplace that felt like, Ive arrived,? Bishop said. Besides whats going on here at Americas Test Kitchen, theres so much creative energy in this 1-million-square-foot building with several thousand other people working here.
