What's for Dinner, Sat., Dec. 30, 2017

I still have my miserable head cold, so nothing too ambitious tonight:

Getting fresh onion rolls, warming up sloppy joe mix. The onion rolls from our store are on the small side, so I like to split them, butter them, and put them in the oven on a low heat. Then I turn them upside down on a hot cast iron skillet and get a crispy finish. So delicious.

Carrot-raisin salad.

Onion rings from Whole Foods. They're frozen, in the bag, but they're pretty good.

An orange for dessert, and later on I might make popcorn and hot chocolate with marshmallows on top.

that all sound especially wonderful. That's the way to handle an arctic blast.

Potato soup and cornbread. I need to expand my soup repertoire as I've exhausted my list of late.

so I looked through my bookmarks. Here's a recent one with good ideas, started back in early December:

dinner tonight is just leftovers of a very quick and easy soup, but I'm looking forward to it, enough to suggest it here also.

Caldo Verde, more prosaically potato and kale soup with sausage. I didn't have Linguica, so I used the Andouille in the freezer, but Italian or any spicy sausage would do fine.

The recipe I used is at http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2017/01/caldo-verde-portuguese-potato-kale-soup-recipe.html

but taco shells and sauce were on my must buy list. TJ is sleeping off a tough week, so I'm waiting for her.

While waiting, I'll have the last of the turkey vegetable soup.
