What's for Dinner, Wed., Mar. 7, 2018

It's snowing here, huge snowflakes that stick to the trees. I think there is already 6" on the ground, so I want cold-weather food:

Big bowl of chicken-tortellini soup. It also has spinach in it, along with the usual celery and carrots.

Fresh-baked blueberry corn muffins.

Dessert: 1/2 a 3 Musketeers bar.

St. Paddy's has come early. (Meaning - I couldn't wait...)

The usual suspects for sides.

ps: Only 1/2 of a candy bar??

did you see your Freudian slip? Corned beer?

Yeah, I only have little portions, so 1/2 a Musketeer candy bar. Big bowl of soup would be 1/2 c soup.

p.s. I've been thinking about corned beef and cabbage, too! Can't wait for 3/17. The RG always makes a big pot of corned beef 'n cabbage and we invite friends over.

for a brisket to try my first-ever home corned beef. No dice. Oh, well. Dinner to combat this dreadful chill was a Japanese-style chicken curry (from a mix dressed up with extra spices) and with veggies and potatoes cooked in for extra comfort.

I didn't notice.

Sure, it was a slip, but I did use beer in the oven braise. Must have mixed the two words.

Sonoran Hot Dogs, Mexican sodas, Tecate beer, some strange Mexican flavored potato chips and frozen cheesecake.

Sonoran Dogs

wrap a slice of bacon around each hot dog, grill until dog is hot and bacon is just crispy
serve on a bolillo roll or other good bun with pinto beans, chopped onion, avocado, tomato, cotija cheese, jarred jalepenos, crema/mayo/mustard.

I add a little chopped chipotle and adobo sauce to the crema and skip the mayo/mustard.

set up like a taco bar so people can put what they want on their dogs. first time we tried these I was expecting a problem with the bacon fat flaring up on the grill but it works great.

hardest part is finding good rolls, regular hot dog buns are too small and wimpy!

foodie at 11, and those are the ones who'll love this. The other 11-year-old's mom actually called me the other day just to tell me he ate something with sauce on it. He'll need to put his own together. We'll have fun watching all three.
