Related: About this forumThe problem with NY Times. Once, on a whim, I started subscribing to the NY Times
Cooking columns. I thought that, since my sister subscribed to the Times, I would get all of this stuff without a paywall. For a few weeks, I got all of those fabulous recipes, but my in-box was over stuffed with emails. Every day, sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. I don't want that kind of in-box stuffing, so I cancelled my "subscription."
Now, every time I go to a NY Times recipe, I get the paywall. No other options. I don't want to ask anyone here on DU or my sister who subscribes to send me a link or a recipe or a print request. I would just like to be able to access whatever I want to view without paying for it. Wondering if anyone else has this experience.

(9,821 posts)sister would happily do the same. It's just that I don't always remember to ask. I see these recipes that I would love to have, but I don't make notes about them. I would really, really, really like to be able to get a direct link (I know...instant gratification.)

(31,975 posts)Not sure if the recipes would come through for you that way or not. I guess it's worth a shot.

(23,738 posts)That usually works for me on most limited-view-per-month paywall sites, like NYT and WaPo.
They track you with browser cookies, so without them, the site doesn't know who you are.

(22,756 posts)and they let you choose what info to receive... I do love the recipes but I hate the paywalls for all the site I don't subscribe to, e.g. Washington Post

(2,012 posts)It's great and I can choose any recipe that looks interesting. But thanks to Elling the best choices are already made for me.

(2,674 posts)A long time ago, I had a digital subscription,. this was before they were making all the food videos. I like to read the NYT for the news and Opinions. They started sending me too many videos. I can read faster than the videos can explain plus I like to read the news, so I can canceled my subscriptions. I now read the news as a visitor. I am a long-time subscriber to the local paper, the Dallas Morning News, it is now costing over $50 a month for home delivery. I don't know how long I can continue to pay for it, but I like to start the day with a cup of coffee and my newspaper.
As far as the NYT recipes, many can be found with a Google search.

(50,261 posts)Too bad because sometimes they do have good recipes, but they bug the heck out of you. I didn't unsubscribe because sometimes I find a recipe googling something and if it links to the NYT I want to be able to access it.
