What's for Dinner, Sun., Sept. 16, 2018

Breaded chicken cutlets that have been marinated so they will be tender and juicy.

Broccoli with garlic.

Salad is chopped tomato, red onion, garlic, and sweet potato. It also has turmeric, ginger, and basil. Used a very nice quality of olive oil. A way to pull out all the delicious juice of the vegetables is to crush the garlic with salt first, then toss it with the vegetable. In this salad, which is very spicy, it created the most delicious combination!

For dessert, a Crenshaw melon. It was at the perfect stage of ripeness and so delicious.

Also for dessert, a piece of dark chocolate and some nuts--walnuts, almonds, pecans--mixed with raisins, dried cranberries and golden raisins.

with a lemon butter sauce for the salmon.

From the farmers market today I got a watermelon, more Gravenstein apples, Kirby cukes for slicing (I'm done with this year's pickles now), carrots, the new potatoes, Sungold tomatoes and Early Girls, a few pears, a big red cabbage, flat leaf parsley, strawberries (Sweet Ann variety). Hmmmm is that it? I guess so.

I've been simmering down a kettle of apple butter since last night. My second batch. I could cook it just for the sensational aroma, but it also is soooo good on toast. And an eleven year old skinny boy discovered apple butter - peanut butter sandwiches last year and we ran out of apple butter. Thus extra this year.

apples simmered with honey and cinnamon, sausage and fried eggs.

Last night was a little healthier: tomato aspic with cucumber, celery, scallions and shrimp; zucchini-cheddar drop biscuits; and plum crisp.

I have two questions: What are kavanuts? And were the sweet potatoes in your salad cooked or raw, Cher?

Rice instead of pasta, peppers, onions, celery along with cajun spices. A wilted green salad and french bread on the side, a chocolate cobbler for dessert with coffee.
