What's for Dinner, Thurs., Nov. 8, 2018

Just picked mesclun, arugula, green peppers, and scallions from the garden, so a tossed salad and some vegetables the RG bought, such as cucumber and carrots.

Appetizer of crackers with chicken livers and "country" pate, both items picked up by the RG at some gourmet shop in Greenwich which he stopped at while driving through. Balducci's, I think.

Fresh cranberry beans are being shelled as I type. They will be served with a slice of ham.

Other side dishes:

Grilled cheese

Shittake mushrooms.

Raspberries and blueberries for dessert.

Executrix. I live 100 miles from her home. Been busy packing up everything at the house with help from my sister who lives 75 miles from there. Almost done. Next is renovating to sell it. She lived there for 60 years.

by Democratic women--Gretchen Whitmer: Governor (first in 8 yrs); Jocelyn Benson: Secretary of State (first in 24 yrs!); Dana Nessel: Attorney General (first in 16 yrs. Granted, Garlin Gilchrist II, the Lt. Governor is a male, but he's the first African American Lt. Governor in Michigan history, so that's worth celebrating. Then there's the re-election of Debbie Stabenow to the US Senate; Elissa Slotkin's awesome victory over Mike "Hair Gel" Bishop in my district; the fact that the Michigan House lost its Republican supermajority so they'll have to deal with Democrats to get anything done--especially since the Governor is now a Democrat.

Then there's there's the passage of all three Proposals. Prop 1 making pot legal (haven't smoked it in 40 years--maybe I should try it again) 😂 Prop 2 Anti-Gerrymandering--heck, now that districts will be apportioned fairly, maybe the GOP will become a permanent minority party. Prop 3 which enshrines voting rights in the State Constitution such as automatic voter registration & same-day registration, and reinstating straight party ticket voting.

That deserves a lobster tail, maybe even two! Besides, I'm retired, so who cares about weekends?

I worked outside all day. It was a lovely but chilly day so I decided to treat myself to a fancy dinner.

Lumpfish caviar with hard-boiled egg, minced onions and toast.

Filet mignon with Béarnaise sauce, (the steak was on sale!). Mashed potatoes and a green salad.

I see there's a bottle of Beaujolais in the wine rack.

Halloween candy for dessert.

with amusement as I read this very sophisticated menu....followed by something like a Tootsie Roll and a Baby Ruth bar.
