Does Anyone Eat Mincemeat Anymore?

When I was a kid, my mom would make mincemeat pie for Thanksgiving and Christmas (plus Pumpkin pie). I was talking with my sister and we both remembered the mincemeat pies and we liked them so much. I decided to make a mincemeat tart this year. I bought a jar of mincemeat today. Mincemeat tart may cause a rebellion at Thanksgiving, so I better make a pumpkin pie too.

we do the dried fruit thing.. and actual minced meat pies are also a thing for my relatives. (Often I ask do you mean the fruit or the meat if we're doing something special)

But yeah I eat it and love to prepare the fruit. The smell is heavenly. I do tarts with it mostly.

But no one else in the family does. (no sure where I went wrong there) So I make mince meat bars and put them in the freezer to enjoy during the winter with my afternoon coffee. But never in the summer. Only a cold weather thing.

a pumpkin pie contribution, but Mr Nay loves mincemeat (I like it a lot, too) and he deserves a pie even if we just eat on it all week.

It can be funny trying to track down mincemeat in the grocery store, because no one knows what it is. I went to my usual store because it has always carried it around the holidays. No one knew what it was or if they had any, until an older man who was obviously the stocker and truck unloader said, "I don't think we get that in until around Christmas." I said that I had always gotten it to make hubby's pie for Thanksgiving.

Ten minutes later he tracked me down just to hand me a jar of mincemeat! He had found a box of it in the back. He made my day.

delicious mincemeat pie especially at Christmas. When I went to college in Oklahoma we were invited to a friend's restaurant. They asked if I'd like some mincemeat pie, I said yes of course. When it came it was Real mincemeat, pork, beef, and lamb I think. i was so disappointed but ate some "just to be polite."
