What's for Dinner, Sat., Feb. 2, 2019

We're having a ball on this cold winter day, binge watching a Netflix series (British detective) and having British food. The Brits are not known for their food, but, hey, once in a while it's kind of fun to try something we wouldn't ordinarily have.

The RG made ground pork and spinach pies. Lattice crust.

Chopped vegetable salad to go with: zucchini, peppers, garlic, carrots, tomatoes.

Fruit with hazelnut dip. Spicy chai tea.

And some type of drop herb drop biscuit or cornbread. I haven't decided yet.

A cozy winter soup.

I got a 404 the first time I tried the link, but if you copy the link without the period at the end of the first line, it works fine.

Mashed potatoes and gravy, broccoli and cauliflower. My whole family's favorite meal. I use arm roast, which I guess is not what it's called in other parts of the country - it's cut from the chuck.

It sounds like the same thing I use to make pot roast. My family loves it too. We're having it tomorrow for Sunday lunch as a leftover from about 4 weeks ago. I'll make mashed potatoes and roasted carrots and caramelized pearl onions with mushrooms. We will also have green beans and a big green salad. I always hope for leftovers to eat during the week, but lately there haven't been many. We usually have 8-12 family members on Sunday--8 adults and 4 children (+/- given visitation weekends.) The kids are ages 9 (x3) and 11 (x1). I am getting nervous thinking about when they reach the ages where they have bottomless stomachs!!!!

I prepared a feast of leftovers since I am solo this evening.

Pulled pork with BBQ sauce on a slider bun
Cole slaw
Mashed potatoes
Baked butternut squash (mashed and rewarmed with a dab of butter)
Lima beans

TJ is off to work and Four Legged Food Critic is in deep sleep on her bed. When he arises there are multiple options. Chicken tenders, pulled pork (no sauce), roast beef and his little cheeseburger sliders (no bun).

A small naval orange with tea and cookies is a possibility later on for me.

With broc, cranberries amd pumpkin seeds. Sweet poppy seed dressing. Buttered baguette.

Have some leftover taco meat I am adding cooked wheat berries to. Makes a satisfying filling. Want to use the last of the cilantro before it goes bad. Have lime and avacado too. Serving on white corn tortillas.

The Landlady(!) made a huge amount of eggplant Parmesan about a month ago so we heated that up. She made a delicious tomato sauce served over ziti. Garlic bread and a Caesar salad with anchovy filets and hard boiled egg.

Dark chocolate and red wine for dessert.
