We're going to a pub tonight in a neighboring town. The RG says he's having steak tartare, but I'm having several vegetable dishes. They make deep fried fennel! So unusual and it's very good. It comes off as a very light dish, even though it is deep fried. Has a dipping sauce to go with it. The other vegetable dish I'm having is Brussels sprouts. The way they make them is spicy.
For dessert, we usually have apple Brown Betty. They make each serving in a little cast iron skillet with two handles.

I'm roasting the sweets & broccoli in olive oil, a mix of paprika, cumin, chili powder & brown sugar.

My guy is out running errands, and he promised not to do a full shop, but he was going to pick up a few things that we are completely out of. I haven't talked to him about dinner.
For my folks I made a ground turkey meatloaf, mashed potatoes (no butter per Dad's doctor), sautéed asparagus, corn (from the freezer) and sliced tomatoes.
I don't think I have to cook for them tomorrow. They have a lot of leftovers that they need to eat. I'll talk to my sisters and see what they think.
On edit: He did a shop. He said it wasn't a full shop, but I'm worried that whatever he bought will be just terrible, and we'll be short on funds to get anything worth cooking. I'm fuming right now.

(12,253 posts)The recipe was off the internet and neither hot nor sour. I fixed it with fish sauce, sriracha, lime zest and juice & a splash of rice wine vinegar.
