I forgot to buy milk so I'm in the doghouse with the Landlady(!). Since she has to work late, I'll make dinner as penance.

I think I'll pick up some berries on the way to work.

My hubs is a wonderful man but his epic fails in the kitchen when I was working when the kids were younger are epic family stories...like when he couldn't find soy sauce for a stir fry so used vinegar. There are more and some are even worse!

I learned to cook when I was in college and was so poor I had to make all my meals. A friend gave me "The Starving Artist's Cookbook" and it was filled with simple dishes and methods. It also had lots of ideas for menus, apartment care, etc. The authors were very funny and in addition to dishes such as spaghetti and meatballs, hamburgers and sandwiches, they included such gems as how to make ice cubes and filet mignon, (they wrote, "You can't afford this so make up with your parents&quot .

Years later, I got a copy of "The Silver Palette Cookbook" and it is sort of the grown up version of the earlier book.

Perhaps we could have a thread about kitchen disasters. You husbands failures sound hysterical! I know I've got a few of my own.

They were so funny...I don't think he tastes things like I do...I am a super taster...I make my own baking powder because I can't abide the commercial aftertaste...I shudder to think vinegar in stir fry tasted good...the kids sure didn't think so.

Look at Milk Street Cookboks.
I have Grandmas self typed cookbook.
I gave all 5 nieces & nephews the Tuesday Night Cookbook from Milk Street. Worth every penny.

I've been looking for something for breakfast that's different from standard fare, is nutritious, low-calorie and something I really like. It's basically a meatless chili I cooked fresh every morning. Only takes about 15 minutes, and clean-up is easy.

Thanks for your comment!

It was last night's (no-sugar) dessert but I didn't have it, so I had it this morning. Apricots are so good when their natural sugars caramelize.
