What's for Dinner, Tues., Aug. 20, 2019

First up will be an appetizer of red and green pepper slices with chicken salad and mustard sprouts on top.

Then pasta with cream sauce and ground pork.

Salad of shaved fennel and mandarin orange with olive oil and herbs over it. Herbs that go with fennel are chives and basil. With the RG gone, you might wonder how I knew that? The answer is this clever flavor pairing web site. Now you can improvise on your own if you don't have that flavor pairing gene (like I don't).

https://www.karenandandrew.com/food-drink/flavor-pairings-affinities/

It's fun to just browse, especially when you have interesting things in the kitchen to work with. It's also good for when you need to use something up but don't know quite what to do with it.

Baking a Sweet potato& onion slices in the toaster oven and pan frying salmon patties.
It's still warm here, so lots of cold decafe tea.

with lots of beans (son brought home a 4# bag of pintos from his college apartment); cornbread with honey; ale for my husband and a locally-brewed Czech-style pils for me.

That link looks very interesting!

Actually doing this for a family that has experienced a death - one of my coworkers passed away at 24. It’s been a hard few days.

Penne mac n cheese with tiny diced ham cooked to perfection - like bacon. Covered in buttered panko crumb. It toasted so nicely! Baked myself a small pan too.

Comfort food I hope.

that's sad when so young.

I'm sure your casserole will be much appreciated. It sounds *very* comforting.
