Cooking & Baking
Related: About this forumThe beans are in the oven!
Big family event tomorrow, and my job is to bring the baked beans. Nothing out of a can for my family, not when it comes to beans. Thankfully, making beans is easy and inexpensive.
Anyway, in about an hour I expect that the house will smell divine. I love the smell of beans baking. (I honestly think Yankee Candle needs to come up with a baked bean scented candle.) Aroma times 2 today, as I have two batches in the oven.
Tomorrow morning they'll go into a crock pot for delivery to the party.

(102,119 posts)It must have gotten broken somewhere along the way. While I know it isn't NECESSARY to create the same wonderful result (and honestly, the Instant Pot has been pretty miraculous for so many of my bean recipes), it just saddens me not to have it. Ebay probably sells something like it, but...
Good luck on your beans

(38,529 posts)but oddly enough it doesn't hold a pound of beans. I looked for it at the local flea market every weekend one summer and found it, and then was very disappointed when it didn't hold the full pound. I keep thinking that one day I'll find a ceramics class and make one--maybe large enough to hold two pounds.
Years ago, my dad experimented with making the beans in a crock pot, but he said that they just weren't the same as baking in the oven. I don't mind the few hours it takes when I use the oven. It helps to warm up the house and the aroma is INSANE!
