Interesting new foods

I found some jujubes today. They look like dates, but not as sweet, with a texture that reminds me of insulation. I’m guessing they’re high in fiber.

I like to buy food I haven’t tried before just to see what it’s like. Usually I find my new adventure in an ethnic market of some sort. Sometimes it works out and I have a new favorite—Japanese almond jelly is in that category. Sometimes, like the jujubes, the new food is just okay. Sometimes it’s just bad—seriously, what did I think I could do with dried mulberries?

occasion for her Arabic class, they were sweet but too dry to eat (had been sitting at her house for too long) so I tried planting the seeds. They germinated and are growing in a couple of pots. I know where there is a remnant population in what was once a Chinese truck garden near town. Kind of tickled to grow these old fashioned things.

until I threw a few in my power juice that I make on occasion. They made it sweeter and added a flavor I can't describe. I do like fresh mulberries.

I have to look up jujubes. Never seen them.
