Cooking & Baking
Related: About this forumHas anyone on DU ever used a Thermomix?
https://thermomix.com/I visited a major fall exhibition today with a good friend I have known for many years. In the appliance section, they were demonstrating the newest Thermomix version. This ia a German-made appliance.
My friend is German - age-wise she could be my daughter - and she has used a much earlier version of this appliance for years. She absolutely swears by it for cooking just about anything - even baking. Although it is quite expensive, evidently it is quite popular with German, French and Swiss households.
For the most part, I am long past the phase of making regular meals for a growing family, so regular pots and pans work just fine.
But I wondered if anyone on DU has had any experience with it.
Here is a recent review from the Evening Telegraph (UK): https://www.eveningtelegraph.co.uk/fp/tech-talk-this-week-derek-uchman-reviews-the-thermomix/

(9,165 posts)As near as I can tell, it's sort of like a food processor with an Instant Pot all-in-one.

(15,366 posts)several years ago, I'd never heard of it either.
But I hadn't seen one "in the flesh" so to speak - until today.
It also bakes fresh bread, etc. The base apparatus itself is not huge (about the size of an electric mixer; a bit smaller than most food processors), but the various attachments would take up quite a lot of space in a drawer.
I don't believe that it is even sold in the US and it seems that it is just beginning to be sold in the UK, but I had to ask to see whether anyone else had ever seen/used one.

(14,889 posts)doing that, I just googled Thermomix. Quite a range of prices.
There's a good explanation on this link. Your link most likely gave a good explanation too.

It does sound like an instant pot.
Slow Cooking for succulent pulled pork
High Temperature for caramelizing sugar
Sous Vide for perfectly tender vegetables and meat
Fermentation for homemade yogurt
Kettle for boiling water
Pre-Cleaning for removing sticky messes
Automatic Blending for delicious smoothies

(15,366 posts)been selling in the US, LOL.
And because it is manufactured in Germany, slave labor costs will likely never apply to this particular appliance, so I don't see the price ever getting very low.
The presenter yesterday told us that certain parts will begin to be manufactured elsewhere (she didn't specify which or where), but that major manufacture will stay take place in Germany. So the price may fall somewhat.
