Got a cold frame with an automatic opener for my birthday.

The opener senses when it is getting too hot for the plant and cracks the roof open. Keeps the babies from getting fried. Started some seeds from my daughter's science project already and I am going to try to grow greens in it all winter long. I have an electric under mat that heats up, so I may start my tomato and peppers in it in the early spring. That way I won't have to deal with the lights and hardening off as much.

2. I'm jealous.

Will be interested to hear how you do with it. I miss gardening all winter, so you can provide some vicarious thrills as you experiment w/your new toy.

3. How big? Who's it made by? (I'm looking for ideas for my orchids)

I'm trying to decide between shade house, greenhouse, coldframe or maybe shade house and coldframe ... Most of my 250+ are (NoCal) cold-hardy, but some would be happier if they were warmer in the winter (and cooler in the summer...)

5. I got a Juwel.

This one. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ATJF3Q/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details

They have a larger/sturdier version, but for my recreational gardening habit, this one seemed best. I set it up in the warmest and most protected spot on the deck for the (zone 8) winter. I think it will be just right for the level of use I will give it. I really enjoy starting seeds and this will make it much much easier.
