Related: About this forumNew cover for Yoshi's wiggly giggly ball - Boris the Spider
At first I just made him plain black, but he looked boring. So Boris is now a colorful magic spider...
I didn't get to take any pictures or video of Yoshi beating up on Boris since he ran him right out into the yard and promptly "seasoned" him in a mud puddle full of snow melt and... mud.
I just got some light gray material that was really cheap since it was the end bit of the bolt of fabric so I got it for peanuts, I'm going to try to make an elephant with that, and right now I'm finagling how to make the various elephant parts. I'm not sure how this one will turn out. If it looks dorky I guess I can take the trunk off and call it a mouse.

(6,011 posts)Did you hand applique the decorative parts on to the spider?
Our dog Sally had a hedgehog when we adopted her, when she was two years old. She tore its back until stuffing was coming out. Then her penchant for retrieving tennis balls wore her canine teeth down and her second stuffed toy, a squirrel, has remained in good condition, though she does bite it to squeak the squeakers, and shakes it hard to "break its neck".

(11,065 posts)That's why I like the wiggly giggly balls. They make the giggle noise inconsistently, so it keeps him too interested to eat them. This is what he likes to do with them...
This was the first time I gave him Mr. Crab after I finished it...
I have to sew on the appendages really solidly or his flipping them around and shaking them up will tear one off. In that first clip his ladybug already had a leg missing somewhere in the snow that I had to retrieve and sew back on, but that was after a really long time of his playing with it.
Those were appliques that I sewed onto Boris. I already had the patterns that I pinched off a quilting site on the internet a long time ago for some other project. I'm surprised they haven't ripped off yet. I hope they don't since I spent hours doing stitching similar for a button hole all the way around each of them by hand (sewing machine busted several years ago) while I watched The Borgias on the blue-ray. I've never been able to just sit and watch tv without doing something with my hands.
His store bought stuffed toys though... he tries to disembowel them all especially if they make noises. I spend a LOT of time repairing his store bought stuffed toys. But he loves them, so I do it. What the hell, I always have to be doing something with my hands anyway. I start to get panicky when I get toward the end of some sewing project and haven't lined up the next one yet.
I did discover recently that you can buy replacement squeakers for really cheap - a big bag of them. So, I spent a lot of time replacing squeakers in his previously disemboweled toys. The only thing I'd love to be able to replace is the widget that makes his farting hedgehogs make the funny fart noise. He has three he still likes to throw around, but they're practically bald now, and he murdered the widget inside them that makes the fart noise. Once I get back to work I'll have to replace his farting hedgehogs again (though he'll probably disembowel them in about 5 minutes). I think I have more fun with those than he does. The noise they make totally cracks me up no matter how often I squeeze them.

(18,219 posts)I just love your ideas for ball covers. Always a treat to see them.
And we want to see the elephant, I don't care how dorky it comes out. And there is no way to make an elephant into a mouse by removing the trunk. Those legs are pretty distinctive in an elephant.

(11,065 posts)OMG, I also forgot about ears! Man, I just don't know about this one. I have plenty of the gray material though, so I suppose I can mess up a lot.

(18,219 posts)I am not sure what you would have had in the end the way you were headed.

(11,065 posts)But I was so worried about trying to figure out how to do the head and the trunk I forgot about the other various appendages. I'd definitely be stuck with a deaf and crippled elephant. LOL!

Here's to hoping you get your new place soon and can enjoy another special fur baby again!
