at the age of 16 months. Struck by a car on a road near us. As far as we can tell it was near instantaneous
He will be greatly missed

(12,154 posts)Just for your information, a pet cat who spends some time outdoors and some (or most) time indoors is not a "feral" cat.

(8,170 posts)We do not live directly on a road. Fred was not feral, he was fully inoculated and spayed, the majority of his life was with us, he slept in the house, came for cuddles, greeted us, ate prepared food and, like any cat, explored a large territory. Regarding "average life span," our last 5 cats have lived until they were late teens early 20s. 2 died of kidney failure, one died due to malpractice by a local vet, one of heart disease and one of cancer.
If you want to jump in with your ignorant assessment please verify all the facts - otherwise piss off and let people grieve.

We don't allow members to derail other peoples' threads with contentious issues. In particular threads about the loss of a beloved pet should never include anything so inappropriate and even downright obnoxious as blaming and shaming someone in their thread sharing the grief and sorrow of their pet's death. Kicking someone when they're down is inexcusable and particularly so when it comes to the loss of a loved one human or animal.
Please consider self-deleting so your post doesn't need to be removed, and I believe you owe the OP an apology for such crass behavior toward someone who is clearly hurting over their loss and posted about it in order to express their pain over the loss.

(12,154 posts)He helped get me through a very tough time in my life.
My little guy was somewhat "dog-like," in that he was friends with everybody in the neighborhood -- even people I didn't know. He'd greet me every time I came home and he was outside...knew the sound of my car and would jump up on the top of the car door when I opened it, purring.
He slept at the foot of my bed every night, like a good watchcat keeping evil spirits away.
He was simultaneously mischievous, independent, and loving. When he died, I felt like my gut had ripped out, and I cried like a baby.
Losing a little furry family member is so tough.

(10,597 posts)I know those eyes. I had a cat that looked just like him. My cat's name was Einstein. Son named him that because he was the one in the litter that did everything first. He was and indoor-outdoor cat too. And one day he wondered away and never returned. We looked high and low for him for weeks, but he never answered to his name as he always did. We now have two more cats and they also are indoor-outdoor cats, 7 and 10 years old. What I told myself when Einstein disappeared was "We gave him a good life. He was loved. And now he is gone." It was enough to get me through my sorrow. Thank you for sharing the news about Frederick.

Freddie
(9,259 posts)The 2 nicest cats we've ever had were both named Frederick, both orange tabbies. Fred I was my very first cat and lived to be 18, and years later when we got another orange boy he had to be another Frederick (Freddie, my DU alias); he's a roly-poly Velcro cat.
BTW where in Cornwall are you? I'm in touch with a distant cousin in Hayle. Beautiful place I mean to visit someday.
