Related: About this forumWe had to put our foster Chihuahua down today.
We've had her for 9 months as a hospice foster. She lasted a lot longer than expected. She had increasing dementia, maybe from brain tumor, and heart disease. She wasn't very socialized, due to a sketchy past, so no affection towards any of us. We think she was kept in a cage in a puppy mill. She was very cute, but such a hard case. She was definitely a fighter, all the way to the end. Goodbye little one.😳

(18,219 posts)I have never heard of that before, but it must take a very special person to do this. How wonderful that you took her into your home and gave her care at the end of her life. I am so sorry that you had to put her down although I suppose you knew that going in.

(11,065 posts)Nine months or nine years it still really hurts. You're an angel for providing this poor little doggie a loving home at the end of her life.

(8,554 posts)I've taken in critters who were terminal or very close to the end, before. That they've lost their original homes is a task in itself, but knowing that they'll soon die makes the loving almost urgent.
I commend you for what you provided that poor little woofie. A great big hug for you!
