PHILADELPHIA (AP) An animal rescue group says a barking dog alerted neighbors to a first-floor blaze at a Philadelphia home where the dog and its owner were later found unconscious inside.
The Red Paw Emergency Relief Team tells The Philadelphia Inquirer the dog was uncharacteristically barking early Sunday, waking up neighbors who called 911 after seeing the two-story rowhome ablaze.

(8,308 posts)from a disaster a few weeks ago. I had put some sliced potatoes and water in a crock pot and I forgot about them. I went to bed and half an hour later my cat jumped up on my dresser and started knocking things onto the floor. She'd never done this before and I got up deciding to get a drink of water. When I went into the kitchen I discovered all the water gone from the crock pot and the potatoes would have soon started to burn. Good kitty! And I told her so.

(9,819 posts)cat that came to your aid. I fear that my cats would evacuate and leave me to go up in smoke!
Seriously, I know that my kitties love me even though they vex me at times. I know that one of my cats (Mildred--my profile pic kitty) is the smartest, greatest cat I've ever lived with and she would probably come to my rescue.
