2. She was only 5. She looked fine but she quit squawking two days ago.

Her owner left her here while he is out driving a truck. I think she died of a broken heart. I haven't told Jeff the bad news yet because he is driving down the road somewhere in Missouri today.

28. Oh MAN!

I wouldn't wanna be in your shoes right now. I lost TWO parrots in one horrible evening 8 years ago. They'd both been with us for 20 years. Both were intensely loving and filled with personality. I couldn't say their names for almost 6 months without breaking out in tears.

39. I am so sorry for your loss. There are no words to remove the pain you felt.

I know you are still feeling the loss.

Miss Chloe wasn't supposed to become part of our flock.

I've known her since she was 3 months old.

I had hoped Jeff would take her with him on the road again. This place feels empty without her bubbly spirit. Our remaining two parrots feel the loss. They were quiet, very subdued, all day into the evening.

When springtime arrives I'll create a resting spot, a blooming garden, to honor Chloe's life. She never bit us. Didn't have a mean bone in her sweet little body.

Jeff said: She was supposed to outlive me. Thank you for loving her.

A macaw.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Her guardian or you may want to take her to her vet for a possible cause of death. S/he would have to do an autopsy.

20. Peaceful passage over the Rainbow Bridge, Chloe

Say hi to Gertie, Louie and Mad Max for Daddy and me.

She was an Umbrella Cockatoo and you're right. There should be an autopsy done. She was way too young. 'Toos can live up to sixty years.

Why I don't practice exotics.

Yes, peaceful passage.

ETA - I read cockatiel instead of cockatoo. Of course, she is big like a cockatoo. I should have just gone with my instinct to call them all psitticines.

32. The large parrots are deceptive in appearance.

Compared to most birds, their heads are large relative to their bodies and generally have a long wing spread. So, they tend to look big; however, I can easily put my hands around our Blue&Gold Macaw's body. Her body is smaller than a turkey's. The same is true for the larger 'toos.

40. Thank you, sarge.

An autopsy might answer the questions we are asking about what caused Chloe's death. Unfortunately, we cannot afford to have it done. I doubt that Chloe's owner can afford one.

We have another cockatoo (Pookie, 20 years old) and a blue and gold macaw (Frodo, 17 years old). The best I've been able to do is speak with a local parrot expert. She knows our home and our birds. All of the parrots are treated with the same loving care. Chloe and Pookie lived in separate large cages only 6 foot apart. We may never know what happened.

25. So sorry for your loss.

Our pets are so close to our souls, it leaves a crack in your heart that will never heal. I hope you can find peace in the coming days, weeks and months. I lost my best friend, Arlo, my 12-year old cat, March 7, 2016 and have wept every day since his passing. Every where I look, there's a reminder of his spirit ~ my heart is as raw as it was the day he left my arms. I will love him and miss him forever. We still have his six housemates ~ all rescues, but there's still that big, gaping hole in my heart. I held him in my arms and kissed his face as he drew his last breath ~ it was so very hard, but I had to let him know I was there for him when he needed me most. I will never forget that loving look in his bright eyes as I held him to my chest as the vet administered his last shot.

33. My condolences, In_The_Wind.

Looks like you gave her a really wonderful life and care and love. She obviously had no trouble or reluctance about returning that love, judging from the photos. She glides with the angels over the Rainbow Bridge now, I suspect. She'll probably see several of our cats there.

45. When Chloe was a baby, she made the sweetest eeep eeep eeep sounds.

Our home is too quiet now.

After two years living in the cab of an 18 wheeler the eeep was replaced with a much louder squawk. She learned to screech for Jeff's attention.

Mr ITW remembered that only two weeks ago I had remarked ... I'm going to miss her when she is gone. I had hoped she would be living with Jeff again.

Pookie is just now starting to call out to us. She used to compete (several times daily) with Chloe in the loudest, longest squawk fest.

Miss Frodo is acting extra loving toward me now. On Saturday Frodo became a bit nippy after seeing Chloe in my arms.

I've been carrying Frodo out of my bedroom into the living room to visit with Pookie each day. Miss Frodo cranes her head to look into her old cage which became Chloe's home for the past 3 years. I am ordering new toys and perches to outfit the cage again after it has a through scrubbing and a few wipe downs with Clorox. Miss Frodo used to spend her days in the living room. She'll enjoy a change of scenery for a few hours each day, maybe even stop laying 3 eggs every 6 weeks.

Yesterday, I said I will not foster another pet. I will gladly adopt. Miss Pookie was a rescue. Second hand pets need love too.

46. Oh, my friend! I've been there and I do understand.

I haven't had birds, you are unique that you understand them and care for them so well. They're your babies too..

I've only had dogs - and cats. And I adopt the older ones. I agree that I doubt I could foster, either. I get too attached. I've hated giving up dogs that I've dog sat for friends!

But you have a big heart, that you're thinking of adopting another bird that needs you. I have done that with dogs. Most of mine have been cockers since that was the dog I grew up with. I adopted my Barney from Steve Caporizzo's Pet Connection. Do you get that there? Channel 10, Albany. Barney was 10 or 11 when I adopted him, Steve said he needed "a special home" because he had never lived with people and wasn't housebroken. My mother called me about him since he was a blond cocker like the one I grew up with - and I called even before the show was even over, LOL. And he turned out to be the sweetest dog with the best temperament that I have ever known. And I had him for eight years! You never know - and my guys seem to find me...

His foster Mom - the wonderful woman who rescued him from the "commercial kennel" (puppy mill ) - where he got too old to produce anymore puppies - kept in touch and a couple of years later asked me if I "knew anyone else" who would be interested in a cocker. She saw me coming, LOL. That was Samantha who was 8. And it wasn't long before we found out why she was given up. She had seizures. Can you imagine giving up your pet because she was sick??

So I had two. But I lost Sam first. And that was awful enough. But about a month later I had to go to another vet to get Barney's prescription food because my vet was out of town. And when I told them Barney was a cocker, they asked me if I was interested in another one. I said I wasn't, that I had just lost my Sam.

Turns out they were boarding a dog - a cocker - whose owner had died. The estate was paying for her boarding for a month and it had already been three weeks. So I met her - and that was my Sheena.

My point in all this is just that you never know. If you're open to it, someone who needs you will find you. But I also know how hard it is now. And my heart goes out to you. I've been there and I know the emptiness - and second guessing yourself. But you gave Chloe a wonderful home and so much love - it's obvious from the way you talk about her. And no one can ever ask anymore than that. Hang in there, my friend. Pookie and Miss Frodo are feeling the loss, too. But they are so very fortunate to have you...
