Related: About this forumAmazing story about https://www.chewy.com/
Our Golden Retriever Ozzie passed on Thursday after Memorial Day. Lymphoma. Sad, but not the emphasis here.
We were purchasing his food from https://www.chewy.com on a subscription. When my wife called to cancel the subscription a few days later, the person who took her call was kind and sympathetic.
Just in Ozzie's last days, we had received an order for a 26# bag of Royal Canin. It was still sealed in the box, and she asked if it could be returned. No, they responded, we'll just reverse the charges and there was no need to return the product. Then Sunny asks about the unopened bag of Nutramax Dasuquin, valued at roughly $80, which was sitting here. That too they indicated should be retained, and they reversed the charges. (We donated the bags to the local Humane Society earlier today.)
But the story doesn't end there. Sunny just returns from the Humane Society, and Federal Express turns up unannounced. They have a bouquet of flowers - roses, mums and lily's. Six each, a vase and a sympathy card with Ozzie's name and a very sweet message.
With that level of customer care, I just had to share the story. These people are amazing.

(14,487 posts)I love Chewy so much! The customer service rep showed a lot of concern for me and my boy Jennings when we got into a conversation about his prescription food too. I felt like I was talking to a neighbor or friend.
Sorry about your loss. It always hurts, but the love is worth it.

(7,527 posts)I hate subscribing to any kind of auto ship that automatically bills you, but their subscription delivery of supplies is flexible and prompt. You can add one-time extras to a normal monthly shipment so you don't have to pay to ship them separately. You can schedule shipments frequently as every two weeks or as occasionally as every three months, so you can have a quarterly flea treatment show up when you need to apply it as well as separate monthly food shipments. Not having to drive to the store on a regular basis and carry heavy cans or bags of food to and from your car is wondrous. You can delay shipments or trigger them instantly if you suddenly run out. I'm often shocked how quickly they appear, often in 1-2 days. You can get email reminders a week before shipments, and can edit or delay them all the way up until right before it ships (day of?).
Unless you need to buy something that you need to see and feel directly to make a decision or fit to your pet, I'd recommend Chewy to every pet owner.

(4,033 posts)So sorry about Ozzie. It is always a wrench when one of our furbabies leaves us, expected it or not.
We had been buying xxx for one of our Cavaliers and then that particular brand was discontinued. Dulcinea has some special needs in food. She is tiny, so needs small kibble and also needs a low-fat diet. I send an email to Chewys outlining what I was looking for in a dog food and asked if they could make any recommendations. I was hopeful that eventually someone would actually read my email and maybe a couple of days after that maybe get a real answer.
Boy was I wrong! Less than 2 hours later I got an email back from them with 3 possibilities for my consideration. I did some research, settled on one, and that afternoon placed an order for a bag (at about 4:00pm). The next morning my order was sitting on my porch. (And Dulci loves her new food.)
I sent an email back to Chewys complimenting on their quick response and giving them a big Attaboy. They sent back an email thanking me for my nice note. Then, about a week later a handwritten Thank You note showed up in my mailbox. Not email, snail mail, and handwritten!
I can't imagine buying anywhere but Chewys.

(1,018 posts)I had a similar experience with Zappos (shoes, clothes). Wanted to buy some slippers and robe for the hospital and upcoming surgery. They sent me a bouquet of flowers! These are nice touches that personalize these otherwise invisible stores.
Love Chewy though. Great prices and free shipping. Even on heavy cat litter!!

(25,849 posts)Some years back my elderly cat was eating canned food that I could only buy from the vet. A couple of days after I bought a case (24 cans) of the food, she died. I was very happy that the vet took back the cans and refunded my money. But what Chewy did is above and beyond.
Maybe the underlying thing here is that sincere animal people really do get it. Cat or dog, that's not the main thing. What matters is our connection to them.
And again, so sorry about your loss.
Right now I have no companion animal, but I hope that someday again I will. But at my age (68) I will make sure I put plans in place to take care of them if I leave this planet before they do.
I will add that I've told my sons that if I ever need to be in a nursing home, they must be sure to find one that has resident cats.
I'm very touched, and am happy to become one of their customers now.
So sorry about Ozzie. One of the happiest days of our lives is when we get a pup and the saddest is when we lose them. I don't know how to brace for losing another furbaby, as we all must.
My heart goes out to you.

(9,262 posts)I was getting Hill's Prescription Diet Urinary dry food for my cat Jake. When he died suddenly 2 years ago I had just gotten a 26 lb. bag of it, which was unopened and still in the box. Called them to return it and they said to donate it to a shelter (I did) and gave me the $60 back on my debit card. Wonderful company. Did not know they were bought by PetSmart, hope this does not change things.

(14,642 posts)We've been buying from them for years. Recently they stopped carrying some food we bought regularly because it became unavailable. So they're automatically giving us 50% off our next THREE pet food orders so we can see what the critters like best. No coupon necessary. And their customer service rocks when a package goes missing (FedEx has been known to deliver to abandoned houses). They replace it with super fast shipping.
