Have any of you heard of this problem with a cat?

Our new guy is a year old neutered male. We have his brother also.

Over the past few weeks we have noticed Rocky was lying around a lot, But his brother does same at times, they seem to be copying our dog, they've been around him since they were 6 weeks old.
Since Thanksgiving, tho, he is obviously not using his legs comfortably and prefers to sleep a lot.

appetite good, drinks water, uses litter box, urinates ( we can tell) but wants to lie on a heating pad and/or the hot air floor registers. Doesn't object much to being picked up, but is not liking his right side legs to be felt.

going to vet first thing tomorrow, naturally, but was hoping for a few clues till then.

If you are subjected to cold temperatures, cats will always seek sources of heat, as you describe. Also cats typically sleep as much as 18 hours a day; add the hibernation lethargic factor and it may be even more. Keep an eye on the leg and look for signs of limping. Many vets have a tendancy to run up huge bills with unnecessary tests etc. I would continue to observe closely.

Do a palpation and see if the favored leg might be swollen compared to the other leg. If swollen you might try to see if kitty will let you apply an ice pack for awhile each hour or at least every few hours.

I think I felt a swollen leg on the right side, but he sure doesn't like me to palpitate that side...

5 years ago we lost a black cat to rattle snake bite. She was a half-feral, I could not keep her indoors all the time.
She sat on the lawn hunched over and very still, you could tell immediately something was wrong, but no obvious sign until the vet touched somewhere along her chest, and blood flowed out. Couldn't save her.
I think that image of hunched over is hitting me now, with this guy....he has never been outside, btw, just for that reason.

Not fair how much these cats steal your heart so fast.

(thanks for listening...:hi

The vet will be able to tell you more and lets hope it is not serious. Let us know what you find out because we are all worried with you.

Moving around more, and slowly, but not with the previous stiff "hitch" in his step. eating eagerly, as long as I put his canned food in front of him, same with water, and uses litter box.
Grooming, lying on side with head up, looking around, vast change over the hunched up lying on tummy he had been doing for a couple days. His coat is lying flatter. He even slowly came to me for a pet on his own. Still mostly sleeping, he found the hot pad under nest I made for him.
so, will wait and see the rest of today, since vet won't be open till tomorrow, it turns out.

Exhale.................and thanks to all for hearing me out.

They are best buds and the dog paws at the cat with those big feet, but the cat comes back for more.

Interestingly, last night kitty was lying close to the dog, for the first time in several days. Somehow the dog knew not to bother the cat, and the other cat also kept his distance.

so much going on in cat communication. amazes me still.

Your 2 are Tater and Moonpie if I remember right. I hope the vet was able to diagnose and help him and you. We hate for our fur people to hurt.

Moving slowly around, but covering a lot of territory in the house, and his tail is up when he walks. Now flops down on his side instead of his tummy, head up, looking around, even got interested in a bird at the feeder out the window.
Good appetite. been giving him bites of tempting stuff, plus a bit of live culture yogurt.

Now I can eat and sleep better.

Current fur kids are Galen, the Golden Retriever, who is 12 and showing signs of decline, plus the getting better kitty Rocky
( also called Houdini, for his ghosting around the house) and his brother Buddy, a tuxedo with white mustache and incredibly long white whiskers.

Rocky is identical to this pic of a Maine Coon cat..same coloring, same ruff, same eyes... exactly.
Both cats are BIG for a year old. We got them from a friend whose parents had a semi-feral Momma cat, and the kittens had to be rescued, so I took 2.

I think tater and moonpie live with Are_grits_groceries. What's the dif? southern liberal cat lady with 2 cats (especially to someone elderly) That's me add a mustache:

Next time you are at the vet with him, mention it. I was thinking maybe he'd dislocated his hip somehow. Maybe jumping down from a high place or something.
