I came home and my dog was panicky.

Apparently the smoke alarm battery was dying and it had been beeping. Must have been overwhelming to his sensitive ears.

I replaced the battery and he's sleeping on my feet. He probably thinks I'm all powerful.

like he was trying to get away from something. It took me a couple minutes to figure out what was wrong.

Totally understand: when we took our lovely girl mutt to the automated car wash, she went insane. Dove into the floorboard of the car etc until the brush passed!

Make sure you put the cover back on properly.

We lived through this exact incident last month. However, after replacing the batteries, hubs didn't completely snap the cover back on, it fell loose, and started beeping again two days later. We came home to two re-panicked puppy dogs.

Oh, the humanity!

even if I have to do it every 4 months or so.

Years ago I lived in an apartment building where the smoke detector in the hallway beeped all weekend. It was a high ceiling and way out of reach - the beeps felt like torture.

For dogs, who have sensitive ears and no idea what's happening, it must be awful.

Our old guy ran out the door and over to the next block! He never runs out. So panicky and stressed
