Elderly dog helps save girl lost in Australian bush

Max, a cattle dog, stayed with the girl for 16 hours

Australian police have praised a dog for remaining with a three-year-old girl as she spent a night lost in bushland.

The girl, Aurora, had been the subject of a large search after she wandered away from her home in Queensland.

She was followed by her family's 17-year-old cattle dog, Max, who is partially deaf and blind.

The dog stayed with the girl for 16 hours before relatives found them on a hillside on Saturday morning.

Unconditional love and yet they are often abused by sick people. I am glad the moron doesn't have one.

are so connected to humans. Every time I witness that, or read stories about it, I am once again amazed.

As an aside, I checked out the Twitter page of the person mentioned in the BBC article. Most of her posts are retweets expressing support for wild horses, tweets from The Dodo, cute pet pics, Happy Earth Day, etc. However, it turns out she's a rabid Trump cultist. How can someone love animals and the planet yet worship that amoral, vile, earth raping thing? The disconnect is staggering. SMH.

Here on DU we have so many animal lovers that we wouldn't think of it - and we know that Trump thinks those who love pets are "low class..."

I was FaceBook friends with a rescue person. I had never really met her before, but I found out that she marched in Charlottesville with white supremacists. I deleted my FaceBook account when I found out. There was a bunch of other stuff that was going on too, but that was the end for me. I have no idea how someone could love and rescue animals and then turn around and vote for Trump. Now that I think about it more though. I have a feeling that maybe this person wasn't really rescuing animals, but selling bumper stickers and t-shirts instead.

Max is declared an honorary police dog for keeping three-year-old Aurora safe throughout a night in Queensland's Southern Downs.

A loyal family dog stayed by the side of a three-year-old girl for 15 hours after she got lost in bushland in Australia.

Elderly dog Max, who is deaf and partially blind, led police to Aurora after she spent an entire night in Queensland's Southern Downs, ABC News reported.

The toddler wandered out of her home and was reported missing about 3pm on Friday after a search of woodlands and hills on the rural property found no trace of her.

More than 100 emergency services volunteers, police and members of the public resumed the search on Saturday morning and found the girl safe and well with Max at 8am.
