Another DU'er posted this toy a few days ago, so I thought I'd pick one up too. These guys are brothers and litter mates. They're both 11 months old now.

(115,571 posts)The cats sort of fought over it at first; only one cat was allowed to play with it at a time and would swat at the others if they tried to move in on it. Now that it's been here for awhile they are a little more reasonable about sharing.

(34,325 posts)for about 5 minutes after I unwrapped it; he hasn't looked at it since. Sammy, my other spoiled feline, took one look at it and walked away. The only toys they seem to like are little fuzzy mice that they can pounce on and carry around in their mouths, howling, then they deposit the prey at my feet. I praise them effusively, they look so pleased with themselves then they take a nap. I've gotten KitNip boxes and Rescue Boxes that are filled with toys and treats; they're happier with the boxes they came in. I'll never learn.
Sigh, why do I keep doing this?

(2,857 posts)I bought two portable generators after our last hurricane, and I still have the two large boxes in the living room (read cat room) and the kittens are playing in them constantly. I splurged the 10 bucks on this toy since 3 of my crew are only 11 months old. The older cats have no interest at all. It's so funny how they like to drop their prey at our feet. We have a stray that lives out in our front yard and he likes to bring real mice to my wife when she sits out front. Thanks for rescuing! All of our dogs and cats are rescues too.

(34,325 posts)I'm glad that my two are indoor-only--only fake fur fuzzy little mice at my feet. I remember when I was a kid, we lived in a pretty rural area. We had two Siamese cats that liked to go out during the daytime. One morning, my dad got up very early and let our male cat out. He was a mama's boy--he loved my mom. Dad let him in again about 7:30 a.m. and proceeded to do something around the yard. All of a sudden, my mom let out the most blood curdling scream I've not ever heard out of anyone before or since. I bolted out of bed and dad came rushing into the house. We ran into their bedroom and there mom was, screaming and pointing at the foot of the bed. There, as Koko's sign of love and affection for my mom, curled up at the foot of the bed, under the covers, was a scared little baby garter snake. You'd have thought he'd brought in a King cobra. Dad proceeded to pick up the tiny snake and usher him back into the field. Dad was more careful after that to make sure that the cats weren't bringing us any more early morning "gifts."
Cats are awesome.
