Dog Pulls Off Spectacular Save During Argentina Soccer Match

This is the best doggone soccer goalkeeper you ever will see.

A pooch invaded the pitch during a Federal A league match between Juventud Unida and Defensores de Belgrano over the weekend.

And it inadvertently became the star of the game with this incredible save:

The only clue that I have is that the winning team had 3 goals and the losing team had none. I'm not a soccer fan so I don't know which team is which. My guess is that the goal did not count since the ball did not go in even though it would have without interference from the dog. Maybe if we have any soccer fans that see this post they might be able to shed some light on it.

The ball did not cross the goal line, so it cannot be scored as a goal. It's no different than if the ball was deflected by hitting a field defect, the referee, or any other obstacle you can think of.

As a former soccer - nay, futbol - referee, I'm confident in this answer.

Nice save, pooch!

I thought that would be the case. I played soccer when I was a kid, but that was many years ago and it was only little league. Besides, we never had a dog block one of our goals.

I love to listen to the games in Spanish as the announcers go ballistic so often. Their unfettered enthusiasm is contagious.

My next door neighbors are from Mexico and they named their Pitbull 'Cuauhtémoc' (sounds like keTEMoh) who is or was a famous futbol player and is also the name of the last Aztec emperor.
