I am sitting here watching my house panther, Tico, chow down on his share of my salad.

If I don't provide him with a handful of lettuce leaves, he will steal them from my bowl (I don't use dressing).

Back in the 1970s my Tonkinese cat, Sammy, had to enjoy his saucer with a couple of tablespoons of tomato juice each morning, and of course he insisted on his share of spaghetti with tomato sauce when that was what we were eating.

He also came running when I ate an apple, requiring that I serve him partially chewed chunks from my hand.

Then there was Gabby, my yellow cat who liked to eat stir fried vegetables and saltines (never more than one square).

Paris, my dilute calico longhair, wants potato chips and popcorn. She also wants mayonnaise, though I don't give it to her. She will snatch a paper plate from the recycling bin if it has any mayonnaise on it.

Cats. Obligate carnivores. Someone needs to send them a memo.

pinto, kidney, black beans, plus cooked red bell pepper. Go figure. One of my current tribe likes cheese. A lot of cats like cheese, though.

I had a cat (Charles, R.I.P.) who loved corn husks. I'd start shucking corn and he'd come running; he just loved those husks. He also was so fond of bread that I couldn't leave it out - he'd tear open the plastic bag and gnaw a big hole in the loaf.

If you were eating a donut or muffin he would hound you until he got some. Just a bite or two and he was happy.
My present boys Andy and Charlie are not big on people food except Charlie will lick your coffee mug clean.

Spot and Puff ( from elementary readers Dick, Jane, and Sally fame). If I opened a can of peas ( or corn) they went a little crazy until I gave them some on a plate. Meowing, rubbing against my legs... you know the routine...l

Really surprised me the first time she started eating pesto pasta off my plate, I never imagined she would like it.

Her favorite thing is cheese, cheese is better than kitty treats. Jarlsberg, cheddar, provolone, muenster, gouda, & boy oh boy baby Swiss from Amish country is the best.

And when I put a bagel in the toaster & push the lever down she comes running to get a little cream cheese.
