What is the best food for a 7 week old Chihuahua Mix?

I'm picking up Sponge Bob from a shelter today.

She is 17 years old now (and still fully feathered) but she was 6 months old in this photo.

12. It will be.

My cockatiel was so jealous of my new baby I had to get rid of him. (The bird, not the baby.)

14. I'll work it out. My bird has been around puppies before.

I just need to set aside some special bird time each day.

19. We're buying a nylabone tomorrow.

He thought my fingers were teething toys until I offered him a piece of cardboard to chew.

22. Nylabone makes a three-pack for puppies.

We always used that as a starter. (Kongs are great too.) I got a good tip from a friend. Thoroughly wet a washcloth and roll it up tightly like a cigar. Freeze it and then let them chew on it. My puppies loved these! Just donít let him shred it, because you donít want him to swallow any strings.

23. He loves the nylabone. Kongs are on the shopping list.

My Goldens loved tossing around Kongs.

Any suggestion about flea power? My puppy has fleas.

24. See your vet.

Flea powders are ineffective and many should not be used on a puppy.

(Sorry for not answering sooner.)

25. We went to our vet Tuesday.

She applied a flea killer to the back of Hal's neck.

This is going to be interesting: he is 5 pounds at 8 weeks. I hope the mix isn't with a big dog.

21. That puppy is too precious!

Wishing you all many delightful experiences together! Please post more photos as he grows!

We have two corgi puppies (11 months and 4 months) and feed them Purina Pro Plan (puppy food). Thatís what the breeder recommended and our vet said it was ďthe best.Ē I donít know if the pet stores carry it, but the supermarket did not. We order from Chewy.com which offers free shipping. We are on a regular delivery schedule with them.

2. a well balanced small kibble puppy food. Chi and Chi-mixes are notorious for losing teeth early on

and rich moist foods (with their hidden sugar content) are likely a big part of that.

Even if you don't try to brush their teeth, the kibble will help or at least not cake to them and rot them out as badly.

Well known brand of puppy kibble with a decent track record. You don't need to spend the most--middle of the pack should be fine.

I didn't know that about moist foods.

3. My chihuahua eats BilJac chicken.

The kibbles are very small & easy for him to eat. I went through numerous brands before I settled on this brand. Pet Smart has small bags to test before going with the larger bags. I can't tell you how many bags of food I took to the shelter because Mr. Picky Pants did not like them.

I got him as a 2 year old rescue, so did not know his history (he was turned in emaciated). I even took him to the vet to see if he had problems with his mouth because he couldn't seem to eat the round, hard kibbles. There was no problem, other than he was picky! He now weighs 10 pounds.

8. I didn't plan to adopt a chihuahua but life has nice surprises sometimes.

I don't know anything about this pup. I would adopt his brother or sister if possible.

I'll look at Pet Smart later. Thanks

18. I'm not going to tempt him with bad habits this soon.

We drove home with a roasted chicken in the car and he didn't whine. He was hungry because he started eating puppy chow as soon as offered.

26. puppy

I think it's great you're adopting a shelter dog but 7 weeks is a little early. I don't think anything before at least 8 weeks in recommended. IS the mother still in the shelter? Like a baby, mother's milk is best. Baring that, I would ask the people at the shelter, they should know. Good luck.

27. Dog food advisor

https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/

This is a pretty good site to learn about dog foods. I don't feed grain-free anymore, personally, since there might be a link to heart issues.

Sponge Bob is ADORABLE!!!!! Congratulations!!!! SQUEEEEE!!!!!!!

28. We have adopted 2 from the same rescue.

They sent us home with what they feed all the dogs in their care - Diamond Dog food. Not BLUE Diamond, just Diamond.
https://www.diamondpet.com/ Price is @.85 lb
Our vet said it was a good choice.
