A dog in northern Thailand has rescued a newborn baby after it was buried alive, allegedly by its teenage mother.
The baby boy is said to have been abandoned by his mother, 15, to hide her pregnancy from her parents.
Ping Pong the dog was barking and digging in a field in Ban Nong Kham village. Its owner says he then noticed a baby's leg sticking out of the earth.
Locals rushed the baby to hospital where doctors cleaned him up and declared he was healthy.
Ping Pong's owner, Usa Nisaikha, says it lost the use of one of its legs after being hit by a car.

That's the title of a National Geographic TV program on canines, and a sentiment I heartily share

(16,886 posts)Just wondering....
Not to excuse what this teenage girl did, but I am wondering if safe legal abortion was available along with medical privacy if she could have terminated her unwanted pregnancy and not be put in this situation.
I ask to also point out that this kind of thing could happen here in US too when teenagers desperate and fearful don't know what to do. There is clearly something also not right with her that she would resort to burying a child alive, but people in desperate and fearful situations with no options resort to horrible things and I believe access to healthcare and legal abortion could have prevented this situation from happening.
I am happy that the child survived and she is getting psychological help and her parents are stepping up to raise the child.
Who knows if this was a pregnancy as a result of consensual sex.
I have no judgment of her.
