Cats and fleas. With my last cat, I used advantage 2

For small cats. At first it seem to work pretty good. But then it didn’t work so well at all even if I used it more frequently than monthly.

What do y’all do for fleas, that works?

1. Year ago for mine

I put Brewers Yeast in their wet food. Was told that fleas do not like that in the cat's blood. Harmless to the cats.

Then brushed 20 Mule Team Borax into my carpets and plush sofa and chairs. I had 3 cats at the time, including a long haired Maine Coon. The salt disintegrates the fleas, larvae, and eggs.

3. The secret is switching it up.

I have a cat who is extremely allergic to fleas and we live in NE FL where there are literally millions of sand fleas, maybe billions, lol. He pulls out his fur in the summer, even now when he's really old and doesn't go outside much. We have to switch out his flea medicine to keep it working best. Right now we are using Activyl, but I noticed that he's getting a bare spot on the back of his neck, so am calling the vet about this today and will probably have to switch again. This is really bumming me out since Activyl is so cheap and it works great on the 2 other cats so now I'll probably have to buy him something separate that will cost lots more - boo. Since Basil is also very nervous, we spray Feliway on the pillow where he lies looking out the window most of the day. It's helped reduce his fur pulling by 1/2 - poor guy.

5. You can buy

Revolution from Canada without a prescription and way cheaper. Just Google it. Here is one place. https://www.canadapetcare.com/revolution-for-cats/flea-and-tick-control-treatment-56.aspx

As a limited income person, I was thrilled to find this last summer and it quickly eliminated my flea problem.

Advantage is well-known to quickly become ineffective.

6. Revolution. I used Revolution on my cats, but my sister didn't use it on hers. Her cat

died of heartworm because he wasn't treated. He was rescued (with ruptured eyeball) from a feral family when he was a wee boy and may have been exposed early in life. He was an indoor-only cat after his eye was removed as the vet was never sure how much vision he had.

He started having what we thought were seizures and she took him to the vet 2 or 3 times in the months before his death. The vet always said "cats usually don't have seizures" and all of his lab work was normal. I started videoing his last "episode" where he appeared to be having another long, continuous seizure. He went out on the screened porch and just fell over and died. It was heartbreaking to watch him in such distress. A vet friend looked at the video and said she though it was from heartworm.

Since Stevie died, we have applied Revolution regularly to all of our cats. Mosquitoes can get into your house and even if your cats don't go outside, they need the protection from heartworm.

7. One of my cats died from flea poison

It was very sad so none of it around here!

I have a Furmanator comb and comb them daily. Wow what a load I got off the last few days! However, NO FLEAS!

They stay indoors and I vacuum the house often.

Been flea-free for a few years now.

I wish you the best.

As for the topical stuff, seems plain Advantage is the safest of the lot, do not know about Advantage 2 however.

Please be cautious!
