I told my husband after we lost our great dane mix that I was done. He (Woofers) had cancer, and it was heartbreaking. My husband swore he was done with big, old dogs too, but...
Two weeks later he was trawling the adoption sites...
So now we have a big, young mutt... a pit mix at that. I took one look and said.. "I had one request,,, not a pit bull" and he said, "Oh, he's a lab mix"
yeah
So now this beast is drooling, spooning, and pretty much taking over my life.

(1,151 posts)I always find the best way to heal my broken heart is to fall in love again. If I had my true druthers, I'd have loads of animals. But since I my lifestyle doesn't allow for more than one or two at a time, I'll continue to rescue animals until I can no longer physically do it.

(1,160 posts)As sad as I was at the loss of my first dog, Woofers, this new one has given me a way to remember him. He's so different from my old guy, but I still find ways to think about the good times Woofers and I shared.
And Blake (the new doggy)is so happy. We got him from a no-kill shelter. He was there for about half his life, so although they tried to care for him, his health has increased ten-fold since we took him in. He jumps after lizards and frogs and his hind quarters have filled out nicely. It's amazing what being able to run around can do.

Glad you and your husband have a new doggie friend to offer a loving home.

(1,160 posts)He was like Scooby-Doo except white and black. He was afraid of every thing...opening shades, weird noises, his own tail...
Imagine a giant dog trying to hide under your feet. He tried to be inconspicuous when he weighed over a hundred pounds. Yeah, he wasn't fooling anyone.

(16,330 posts)oh the dogs I have loved and lost, each special in some way and different from the others. The pain of losing them is deep. Yet, we open our hearts to new love again and again. There's just nothing like it!
Enjoy your new love!

(1,160 posts)I tried everything
No food play (can't feed him), no taking things he thinks are his (peas spilled on the floor), no ignore (bites me on the arm), no just sitting around on the computer. Bites all the time. I love my husband and Blake too; I'm just terrified he's going to make more than holes the next time.
